Color Feelings

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to colors having certain connotations. Different cultures tend place different feelings on colors.

While children and elderly people tend to like highly saturated colors, adults don’t.

Color Themes

Primary colors can be seen as childlike and simplistic. Deep violets, blues, maroon and gold historically have conveyed richness. Bright secondary colors can be used to convey action and excitement, while earthtones can be natural and inviting. Progressive themes tend to use unexpected hues. Gradients are eye catching and convey energy, while flat colors can make an easier to see background.

While color can strengthen a design, make sure that color alone is not what makes it good. Consider those out there who are color blind!

Tip: borrow color combinations from designs or photos that are appealing!
